Swiss tennis legend and multiple grand slam champion, Roger Federer, bid farewell to life as a professional athlete, after his emotional retirement following his 2022 Laver Cup doubles match, partnering with fellow star, and close friend, Rafael Nadal. However, his impact on the sport remains as powerful as ever as he continues to shape a lasting legacy, most prominent at the Laver Cup – a tournament Federer co-founded to celebrate the spirit of tennis and honour Rod Laver, a tennis icon whom he shared a close connection with, prompting its naming.
Despite no longer appearing as a Laver Cup competitor, Federer returned to the Cup as a spectator, co-ordinator, and influencer – captured heavily on professional social media channels, including in the Wilson event to promote the ‘RF 01’ racket. This highlights how Roger Federer continues to influence the tennis world beyond his playing days such as through his highly popular merchandise collection. Federer’s collection is tributary to his tremendous career, whilst it serves as a connection between the Grand Slam champion and the tournament he co-founded in 2017.
As part of the RF Collection, in collaboration with Wilson, a limited-edition Laver Cup range has been released, acting as the Official Supplier of the 2024 Laver Cup Berlin. This collection played a significant role in promoting the event alongside his presence at the event, which continues to draw in fans and media exposure, even beyond the end of his professional career. The tournament’s popularity, and its consideration as a premier tennis event, act as evidence that Federer’s legacy continues to transcend across time.
Roger Federer’s merchandise collection is more than just fashion; it’s a reflection of his continuing influence on tennis, bridging his personal legacy with the Laver Cup’s future. Despite the 2024 tournament having just drawn to a close, it is clear the respect fans still maintain for Federer and their admiration for him – highlighted by Wilson’s current marketing strategy of focusing on the “play tested by Federer” commendations.
